EASA gives ESG the nod for modem and antennas
A hotspot and modem package from ESG opens up promising applications for police deployment scenarios as well as in the field of emergency services. The technology can also be used in private/business environments.

EASA has granted ESG Elektroniksystem und Logistik approval for a new STC permitting installation of a cabin Wi-Fi hotspot with 3G/4G cellular modem and outside antennas for EC135 and EC635 helicopters.

The approval was preceded by an extensive test programme consisting of ground and flight tests. In particular, it had to be ruled out that the helicopter would malfunction using all mobile radio transmission frequencies.

Software developed by ESG is installed on the Wii-Fi router integrated for the customer in the helicopter, which not only enables the internet connection as such, but also secure access to the networks of authorities and companies. The corresponding interface can be configured according to customer needs.

This solution package from ESG opens up numerous promising application opportunities both in the context of specific police deployment scenarios as well as in the field of emergency services or for use in private or business environments: protected transmission of police mission data, transmission of sensitive patient information in real time, working in flight or infotainment in helicopter shuttles.

The STC issued by EASA also enables a comparatively fast transfer to other helicopter types, so that this will also result in multiple short-term added value for a wide variety of customers.

ESG is an approved aerospace company for aircraft and aircraft of the Bundeswehr and aeronautical operation according to EASA Part 21J / G and Part 145. As a special systems company for mission systems it offers simulation and training, as well as special special application systems. Independent process and technology consulting is one of the key competencies of ESG. Technology transfer between the markets is the basis for the decisive contribution to the added value of its customers.
