Overview

The Challenger 605 was announced at the NBAA on 8 November, 2005 where a full size cabin mock up was put on display. The aircraft features a conical rear fuselage, a reduction in basic operating weight over the 604, and the cabin interior has more headroom and volume plus larger windows.

The 605 is powered by two GE CF34-3B1 turbofans, each rated at 41.0 kN. It has a total fuel capacity of 11,214 litres.

The first flight was made on 22 January, 2006.

Transport Canada certification was granted on 5 October, 2006 followed by the FAA and EASA on 20 and 24 October respectively.

Deliveries commenced on 29 January, 2007, and in May of that year it was certified by EASA and Transport Canada for steep approaches into London City airport.

Bombardier announced the Challenger 605 MAX programme in October 2013, replacing certain components with the latest configurations starting early 2014.

From the 605 came the Challenger 650, which was introduced at NBAA 2014 with launch customer NetJets. Its first flight came on 26 February, 2015 and there was a public debut of the prototype on 19 May, 2015 at EBACE. Entry into service was scheduled for later in that year.

The 650 has higher thrust CF34.3B MTO engines for extra payload and greater range out of challenging airports as well as a redesigned cabin.

Transport Canada awarded certification on 9 November, 2015 followed soon after by the FAA, and the first delivery was made on 17 December. EASA certification was achieved on 29 February, 2016.
