Resurfaced runway at Le Castellet reopens
A major renovation project began at Le Castellet International airport in November last year, and already the runway has been refurbished. The airport is once again open to air traffic.
Le Castellet International airport is located next to Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France.

After two months of major renovation work, Le Castellet International Airport re-opened to air traffic on 22 January. The airfield, built in 1962 by Paul Ricard and now an international airport, is in the process of undergoing a thorough programme of modernisation and refurbishment.

The runway work, undertaken by the construction company Colas and starting last November, involved around 100 workers over a period of two months. After removing the top layer of asphalt, repairing and relaying the pavement base and then resurfacing with a tarmac layer, runway marker lighting and control systems have been completely overhauled. The construction techniques used during this project had been carefully designed to limit its environmental impact; all site materials have been reused or recycled.

This major project has been fully financed by the airport itself. It took advantage of this work to ensure its runway complies with EASA's new European and International standard. In the near future, construction work will be undertaken in the terminal building to modernise the passenger hospitality area with new lighting, flooring, painting and air conditioning.

Located right next to the Paul Ricard racetrack and just a few kilometres from resorts on the French Riviera such as Cannes and Saint-Tropez, Le Castellet International Airport is open to tourists and business travellers to the south of France all year round, as well as racing drivers and their teams who come to compete on the famous Circuit Paul Ricard.
