Collins advances connected aviation with FlightAware
Data allows companies to increase efficiency and reduce costs; collection and analytics are key. Collins' new connected solutions unit will open up maintenance scheduling opportunities based on FlightAware technology.

Collins Aerospace has completed the acquisition of FlightAware, a digital aviation company providing global flight tracking solutions, predictive technology, analytics and decision-making tools. The acquisition agreement was originally signed in August of this year.

FlightAware, led by James Sulak, will be part of a newly formed Connected Aviation Solutions business unit, which will focus exclusively on advancing Collins' connected ecosystem solutions.

“Across the industry we serve, we are focused on helping our customers turn data into value, enabling them to increase efficiency and reduce cost while improving the sustainability of their operations,” says Collins president Stephen Timm. “With FlightAware on board, our new Connected Aviation Solutions business unit combines the best of Collins' aircraft systems with established data networks and connectivity solutions, together with the recognised leader in data collection and analytics. We are well-positioned to launch a new generation of smarter digital solutions.”

Collins' Connected Aviation Solutions president Jennifer Schopfer adds: “This delivers the potential to reduce unplanned maintenance, improve dispatch reliability and to know exactly when the plane will be on the runway or at the terminal to keep flight schedules on time.”
