Nordrhein-Westfalen chooses six T2s to enhance state policing

Germany's regional police service Landespolizei Nordrhein-Westfalen (LN-W) has selected six EC145 T2 to assist in aerial law enforcement. Deliveries are due to commence in 2016. As one of the largest of the country's 12 state flying police forces, the LN-W serves the cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Essen.

The organisation will fly the same type as the Baden Württemburg police force, which was the launch customer for the EC145 T2's law enforcement version following an order for six helicopters in December 2013.

The T2 is the latest member of the EC145 family, incorporating Arriel 2E engines, along with upgraded main and tail rotor gearboxes and four-axis autopilot Helionix digital avionics.

In its law enforcement configuration, the EC145 T2 can be equipped with a modern mission management system which allows for multi-role capabilities in police missions. Its primary role for observation and surveillance is supported by forward-looking infrared (FLIR) and daylight cameras, controlled by an operator who also handles communications and data exchange with ground-based police resources.

The LN-W currently has a fleet of EC155s and BK117s, both of which are to be succeeded by the EC145 T2.
