Capital Air Ambulance gains King Air training licence

As part of the continued growth of the UK's largest fixed wing air ambulance company, Capital Air Ambulance has been accepted by the UK Civil Aviation Authority as an Approved Training Organisation for the provision of type rating training and testing for the Beechcraft King Air 200 series of aircraft.

Malcolm Humphries, Capital's managing director and chief pilot confirmed “This important endorsement means that any future non-rated flightcrew joining the company can now be fully trained in-house. This makes both practical and commercial sense for the company as it negates the requirement for a third-party training provider to be involved.”

Capital Air Ambulance's team of highly experienced instructors and examiners will conduct the ground and flight training at Capital's Exeter Airport training facility. The flight training, a minimum of ten hours, will be flown on the company's own aircraft, meaning students are 'hands on' right from the start and not in a simulator.

The new training facility will also be made available to third party King Air operators and owners including individuals seeking to gain the rating through self-funding.

Humphries believes that the new training arm of Capital will enable the company to evaluate potential future pilots who could be invited to apply for flight crew positions thereafter.

Capital's expanding King Air fleet is extensively used for both domestic and European air ambulance repatriation and emergency transfer services, supplementing the company's fleet of air ambulance Learjet 45s which have a worldwide capability.
