HeliOffshore enhancing safety through best practice and industry-first online collaboration

HeliOffshore, the global safety association for the offshore helicopter industry, has launched guidance for helicopter operators to standardise and improve use of health and usage monitoring systems (HUMS), worldwide.

HUMS are sensor-based monitoring systems that measure the health and performance of mission-critical components in aircraft. By continuously monitoring vibration at critical points on an aircraft, HUMS provides actionable information so operators can make data-informed decisions.

The guidance is the result of more than 12 months of collaboration between the world's top HUMS specialists. Stakeholders from across the industry, including operators, manufacturers, oil companies and HUMS experts have shared data, policies and experiences, and identified and developed industry-wide best practice.

HeliOffshore chief executive officer, Gretchen Haskins, says that the industry's ongoing, long-term collaboration is already enhancing the safety of the global offshore helicopter transportation.

“The launch of HeliOffshore's Health and Usage Monitoring System Best Practice is the result of a highly engaged industry putting momentum behind those actions that will make the greatest difference to safety,” said Mrs Haskins.

In parallel, the association has launched “HeliOffshore Space”, an online collaboration tool which is a first for the global industry.

“Through HeliOffshore Space, we're empowering our industry experts to collaborate to the benefit of everyone at the frontline and everyone who travels offshore,” said Mrs. Haskins.

HeliOffshore Space enables industry experts to come together – no matter where they are, across multiple time zones – to share information and best practices, and support each other to achieve ever-higher levels of safety performance.
