Shell Aviation fuels growth with launch of operations at Roskilde Airport

Shell Aviation (SAV) today announced it has begun refuelling aircraft at Roskilde Airport (RKE), a leading business aviation hub situated 30 minutes from Denmark's commercial centre, Copenhagen. Shell Aviation will now provide fuel supply and refuelling services to airlines at RKE, in a move which underlines its position as a leading business aviation fuel supplier.

The entry into RKE aligns with Shell's selective growth strategy and further boosts Shell Aviation's global footprint and network capability to supply key airline partners. Roskilde Airport becomes the seventh Danish airport where Shell Aviation operates, demonstrating Shell's expanding presence as a key player in the aviation servicesindustry in Denmark – where it has operated for 75 years – and in Europe.

Other recent global expansions include Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport in the United Arab Emirates and London City Airport in the United Kingdom. Shell-MRPL, Shell's marketing joint venture in India, also announced recently that it had grown its operations to 12 airports across India (see news release).

Sjoerd Post, Vice President, Shell Aviation, said: "The launch of operations at Roskilde Airport marks the continued growth of our international airport network. We are looking forward to bringing our world-class expertise, leading technology and global best practices in running airport fuelling operations in many parts of the world to Roskilde while making an important investment and contribution to one of Denmark's leading business airports."

Roskilde will also benefit from Shell's extensive experience in working with airport authorities and other stakeholders to improve overall airport safety and operating standards, including into-plane fuelling, self service unit design, airport network planning and fuel farm systems.

Lars Lip, RKE Airport Manager, added: "We are pleased to welcome Shell Aviation to Roskilde Airport. Shell's presence will bring important benefits such as increasing supply security and price competitiveness at the airport, along with supporting our exciting growth plans."

The start of Shell's fuel supply operations at RKE follows an agreement which was signed in June 2010. The airport is primarily used for general aviation flights, along with flight instruction, taxi and training flights. On average an aircraft takes off and lands approximately every five minutes.

Shell Aviation also supplies fuel to Copenhagan (CPH), Billund (BLL), Aalborg (AAL), Aarhus (AAR), Esbjerg (EBJ) and Sonderborg (SGD) airports in Denmark.
