New crew manager appointed to oversee expansion of rescue and fire fighting services at London Biggin Hill Airport

London Biggin Hill is celebrating the appointment of a new crew manager for its rescue and fire fighting services (RFFS), as the airport upgrades its RFFS status to Category 6.

Vanessa Hopkins, 25, steps into the role with the newly appointed 'Green' watch, the creation of which has produced 11 new firefighting jobs. Hopkins, who has been a rescue and fire fighter at London Biggin Hill for six years, is the first woman to be promoted to crew manager at the airport.

She first aspired to the career following a period of work experience at London Biggin Hill whilst completing a BTEC Public Services Level 3 Diploma at nearby Bromley College. Hopkins lives in Larkfield near Maidstone, Kent.

Andy Patsalides, marketing manager, London Biggin Hill Airport, says: “Vanessa is a capable, efficient and enthusiastic member of the team, and we are delighted that she has agreed to step up as crew manager of our new watch.

“Ensuring the safety and security of all those who live, work and land at London Biggin Hill is our top priority. It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of people like Vanessa that we have been able to upgrade our rescue and fire fighting services, to better serve the airport as it continues to evolve.”
