Wiking Helikopter Service

Airbus Helicopters H145

Press Release

Issued by Wiking Helikopter Service.

December 13, 2017

Wiking ATO successfully completes first type rating for new H145

Wiking’s own in-house Approved Training Organisation (ATO) has successfully completed its first type rating for the Airbus Helicopters H145, its new fleet model.

Having its own ATO, Wiking Helikopter Service GmbH is now in a position to carry out training not only for the helicopter type S76, but also for the H145.

Presently Wiking has two Airbus H145 aircraft at its disposal for offshore operations. The in-house ATO makes it possible for the company to train its own pilots according to requirements and tailor the growth of the fleet with the qualification of the pilots. The ATO is also available to third parties for their type rating and training needs. With the additional aircraft, Wiking is taking a further step towards its goal of fleet modernisation.

Wiking Helikopter Service GmbH has been working for more than 42 years as specialist for offshore operations in the North and Baltic Sea, operating six helicopters of the types Sikorsky S76, Leonard Helicopters AW139, and Airbus Helicopters H145. Originally established purely as a support service for sea-pilot transfer in the German Bight, Wiking continues to operate this service as part of the sea-pilot transfer network for inbound and outbound ships in the German Bight.

Since the introduction of the helicopter sea-pilot transfer service, the company has carried out more than 55,000 accident free transfers. In addition, Wiking has grown in the area of supply services to offshore projects, principally in connection with wind energy. Here passengers and equipment are carried to platforms and crane ships offshore from onshore sites in Wilhelmshaven and Emden. Since 2012 Wiking has also operated a HEMS service dedicated to the emergency needs of offshore personnel in the offshore wind industry. The service is based at the JadeWeserAirport and operates 24 hour response readiness.
