Colibri Aircraft research reveals growth in European private jet market

New research from Colibri Aircraft, which specialises in the marketing, resale and purchase of pre-owned private aircraft, reveals there were 2,367 private jets registered in Europe in April 2017, a rise of 78 or 3.4% a year earlier. Also, the number of new private jets delivered to the continent in the first quarter of 2017 was up slightly from the same period in 2016.

During the first three months of this year, its analysis reveals 20 new private jets were delivered to Europe, compared to 18 during the same period in 2016. For last year as a whole, 90 new business jets were delivered to Europe compared to 97 in 2015.

Colibri Aircraft's research found that Germany has the largest number of registered business jets with 404, 17% of the European total. This is followed by the Isle of Man with 325 aircraft and the UK with 223.

In terms of which European countries saw the biggest increase in the number of business jet registrations between April 2016 and April 2017, Portugal had the highest with a rise of 170%, followed by Ireland with 27%, Malta with 18% and Czech Republic with 9.5%.

Oliver Stone, managing director, Colibri Aircraft said: “The European private jet market is the third biggest in the world after North and South America, and the overall number of private jets in the continent is increasing. However, there are currently more sellers than buyers so prices of pre-owned business aircraft have been falling.”
