Heli-One introduces external operations visual monitoring upgrade for Sikorsky S-92

Heli-One, a leading global provider of helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, has developed an upgrade for the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter that is designed to enhance safety and situational awareness.

This economical solution features two tail boom-mounted cameras that monitor the engine and cargo door operations in real-time. Two additional cameras can be mounted to focus on hoist and cargo hook operations. This solution provides pilots live video feed of critical external views that impact crew and passenger safety while inflight.

This upgrade provides excellent value for money and minimally impacts airframe and avionics systems. The camera feeds can be shown on any of the five multifunction display units on the cockpit and pilots can easily toggle between views.

The baseline installation has cameras that focus on the engine and cargo ramp operations. The engine view provides live monitoring for smoke or abnormal operation, while the cargo door view offers pilots visual vantage points to aid ground operations. The enhanced solution adds two additional cameras attached to the hoist and cargo hook that can provide video during lifting operations. The cameras function effectively even in low light conditions. A video recorder with audio is also part of the enhanced package.

“This upgrade offers operators a way to monitor the external operations of the aircraft, including the cargo door, hoists, and engine, giving crew and passengers peace of mind while also enhancing safety,” said Anthony DiNota, president, Heli-One. “The additional views offer pilots greater situational awareness upon landing, facilitating more efficient operations with ground crew. This simple solution was necessitated by our unwavering organizational goal to uphold the highest standards of safety in the industry.”

Heli-One’s Design teams in Canada and Norway are approved design organizations (Transport Canada Design Approval Organization and EASA Part 21J Design Approval Organisation, respectively) and can design and certify a wide array of major, minor, and repair solutions in practically any airworthiness jurisdiction in the world. The Design teams are focused on expanding operational capability and extending the longevity and value of aircraft.
