Jet Aviation authorised to perform baffle replacements for Pratt & Whitney in Basel

Jet Aviation has acquired the necessary tools and training at its maintenance centre in Basel to perform the Pratt & Whitney (PW) Service Bulletin (SB) calling for replacement of the left and right bevel gear oil shield on PW307A engines.

Baffles are critical to the proper functioning of an engine. The baffle replacement is classified as a heavy maintenance input. As a manufacturer-appointed premium service provider in Europe for PW300 engines, Jet Aviation's maintenance centre in Basel worked closely with Pratt & Whitney to gain the tools and training to comply with the manufacturer's Service Bulletin (SB 72-47178) for baffle replacements.

“We are delighted to offer this heavy maintenance service to our customers in Basel,” said Hans-Peter Amacher, manager of the engine shop at Jet Aviation's maintenance centre in Basel. “Demand for this service is strong and we invested in the required tooling and training under this Service Bulletin to ensure we can continue to support our customers as needed. Our acquired expertise extends to Pratt & Whitney's new improved NO 4 bearing carbon seal and seal runner (SB 72-47217), which can also be incorporated with the baffle replacement.”

Earlier this year, the Basel maintenance centre received approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to operate its new Honeywell auxiliary power unit (APU) overhaul facility for the GTCP36-100/150 series.
