Bombardier and Tianjin Airport Economic Area announced today that they have officially signed definitive agreements confirming their joint venture and have commenced construction of a maintenance facility for Bombardier Business Aircraft, to be located in Tianjin, China. Leaders from both sides celebrated the venture with an official groundbreaking ceremony.

The service facility, which is set to open in 2017, is 8,897 sq. meters (95,766 sq. feet) including hangar and office and back shop areas. Bombardier Business Aircraft customers will be able to receive maintenance, repair, overhaul, and associated activities and services at the facility. Under the joint venture agreement, the facility will be operated using similar processes and procedures that govern Bombardier's wholly-owned service centre network worldwide.

"China, and specifically Tianjin, is a strategic location for business aircraft," said Michel Ouellette, vice president, aircraft programs and customer services, Bombardier Business Aircraft. "We look forward to collaborating with the leaders of Tianjin to provide our customers with access to a full range of OEM maintenance services at their doorstep."

The new maintenance facility will further strengthen Bombardier's customer support network in the country, which includes a team of field service representatives and customer support account managers, four authorized service facilities, regional support offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong and neighbouring Singapore, as well as two established parts depots in Beijing and Hong Kong. In addition, Bombardier continues to explore opportunities to increase its customer support presence in strategic locations.

Bombardier currently has an installed base of over 120 business aircraft within the greater China region.

Tianjin Airport Economic Area (TAEA) is an economic development zone of Tianjin Binhai New Area (TBNA) within the jurisdiction of Tianjin municipality. The TBNA is highlighted by China Central Government as a new growth pole in China in the new century after Shenzhen Special Economic Area and Shanghai Pudong New Area. Tianjin, with a population of 14 million, is bordered by Beijing only 120 kilometers (75 miles) to the northwest. Tianjin boasts as a leading economic centre and the largest sea port in northern China.

TAEA, with its comprehensive advantages and a vision of building up Tianjin's reputation as a first-class cluster for aviation and aerospace industry, has attracted a significant number of global aviation companies, investing and establishing a strong foothold in Tianjin. There are 160 projects funded by the world's top 500 enterprises in TAEA and its subzone -Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone.
