Universal cautions business jet operators to start making arrangements now for Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix in May

Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. is informing business aircraft operators planning to travel to southern France in May to begin planning immediately, if they haven't already, and to be prepared for operational challenges such as limited airport slots, parking, hotels, and other auxiliary services.

"With the Cannes International Film Festival (May 13-24) and the Monaco Grand Prix (May 21-24) taking place simultaneously, operational challenges can be anticipated in terms of aircraft parking, hotel accommodations, local transport, and associated support services," explained Isabelle Canton, senior Universal Aviation representative, South of France. "If you plan to attend either of these events, or be in the area during this period, it's recommended that you begin the trip planning process without delay."

Slots and parking at primary airports Cannes (LFMD) and Nice (LFMN) fill up fast, particularly May 21-26, so operators should avoid schedule changes as much as possible.

"It's best to try to avoid revisions during this period, and prepare your passengers for any delays that may be experienced due to local airport congestion," said Canton. "Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) processing for arrivals/departures may take longer than normal depending on traffic volumes. Anticipate delays for support services including auxiliary services such as fuel uplifts, lav/water service, and in-flight catering. Any changes to your schedule will mean that confirmed aircraft parking and slots are cancelled and a new request must be submitted. This puts you at the back of the line, and can make the difference as to whether or not you get your passengers to their destination on time."

For operators unable to secure parking at LFMD or LFMN, there are several parking alternates to consider, including Le Castellet (LFMQ), Genoa (LIMJ), and Marseille (LFML).

"LFMQ is a great airport for alternate parking when LFMN, LFMD, and LFML fill up," said Canton. "Operators appreciate the wide-open parking availability and privacy of this location. At LFMQ, your aircraft can be hangared, it's not visible to passers-by, and you will not be competing with scheduled commercial operations."
