RUAG installs first Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 to Pro Line 21 upgrade on Falcon 2000

RUAG Aviation has recently installed the first European Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 to Pro Line 21 upgrade on the Falcon 2000. The upgrade is now available for Pro Line 4-equipped Falcon 2000 and 2000EX aircraft and is approved by both the FAA and EASA.

The project was completed at the RUAG Aviation facility in Lugano during a 3C inspection. It was also the first time an inspection of this type has been performed at RUAG Aviation Lugano.

This upgrade replaces the existing Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) displays with new Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Displays (AMLCD). The new 8x10 inch displays present charts, maps, cameras and graphical weather, and are distinguished by the clarity and sharpness of the image. Moreover, the advanced technology of these displays position the aircraft for future development towards the Synthetic Vision System (SVS). Today, critical flight information including graphical weather, EGPWS, TCAS, lightning detection, airport location and more are available to you at the touch of a button.

The Pro Line 4 to Pro Line 21 upgrade was part of an extensive avionics upgrade, which also involved the installation of dual Rockwell Flight Management System FMS-6000 along with GPS4000S sensors with WAAS for LP/LPV capability, relocation of the Auto Pilot control panel from the central pedestal to the instrument panel under the glare shield, installation of the Honeywell Mark V EGPWS, replacement of the analog Standby indicators with an integrated digital Secondary Flight Display (SFD) from Meggit, installation of a 3rd Rockwell AHRS, replacement of the CRT Radio Tuning Unit to AMLCD type, upgrade to TACAS II 7.1, installation of new Aircell Iridium SATCOM (FANS 1/A capable), installation of the Rockwell Ascend Management Information (AIM) system and new IFE. Additionally, the aircraft has been prepared for incoming FANS 1/A mandate and ADSB-Out with the provided installation of wiring.

This aircraft is now equipped with state of the art avionics and complies with incoming mandates. More importantly, the Human Machine Interface (HMI) has been improved, further increasing safety and situational awareness. “These upgrades will enhance both the functionality and the value of the aircraft. A stand-alone Pro Line 4 to Pro Line 21 upgrade can be accomplished within 4 to 6 weeks of ground time with wiring looms prepared in advance.
