Bristol Flying Centre carries out UK leading avionics overhaul on CJ525

The engineering department of Bristol Airport based Bristol Flying Centre (BFC) Group has completed what is believed to be the UK's first installation of the Garmin 750 system on a Citation Jet 525, as part of a total overhaul of the avionics system.

The work was undertaken on one of the aircraft managed by Centreline Air Charter, part of the Bristol Flying Centre Group, following the owners request to upgrade. The three week installation took place at the BFC engineering facility and involved a highly complex process which required the removal of the entire flight panel, removing and refitting most of the interior and enabling work on the aircraft aerials.

BFC head of the Approved Training Organisation (ATO) and Centreline Air Charter head of training, Julian Telling, oversaw the project and commented “The work carried out on this aircraft really takes the pilot into a new generation of avionics by incorporating all of the aircraft systems into one state of the art, easy to use device. It also provides an additional level of safety particularly because of the presence of the traffic collision avoidance system and terrain warning mechanism.” Telling added “A key benefit is that the product provides the pilot with a greater level of information allowing him to make better decisions regarding, for example, fuel use. The system takes a feed from the aircraft flight data computer so temperatures, altitude and fuel flows can be taken into account and this information can be then used to help the pilot decide how best to set the aircraft powers. This can then of course provide efficiencies for the owner”.

Established in 1991, Centreline Air Charter is the UK largest CJ525 operator and has a long association with the aircraft. The relationship has been strengthened by BFC's engineering facility which has been qualified to offer full maintenance support for the Cessna product for many years and is an established Approved Training Organisation authorised by the CAA and EASA to train pilots across Europe and ICAO membership states. The facility also has dealerships status for Garmin, S-Tec and L3.
