Press Release
Issued by RUAG MRO.
February 19, 2014
RUAG Aviation is due to receive a new EASA certification for the integration of dual Garmin G600 avionic suites with Midcontinent standby attitude module (SAM) instrumentation for the Viking DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 300 aircraft. The supplemental type certificate (STC) takes effect at the end of February 2014.
The integration of this modern avionics suite secures the highest possible level of situational awareness for pilots of the DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 300. Its diverse options include synthetic vision, terrain awareness and traffic collision avoidance systems, as well as a digital weather radar, satellite weather radar and lightning strike information.
Major equipment upgrades also comprise a part of this integration, in the form of advanced solid state Attitude Heading Reference Systems (AHRS) to replace existing Iron Vertical and Horizontal Gyros.
Stephan Woodtli, general manager of RUAG Aviation's Lugano facility, comments: “Our customers have always been able to rely on consistent high quality services and solutions from RUAG Aviation – this STC is a reflection of this. We are delighted to be able to offer our customers yet another reliable solution for improving the safety and life cycle of their aircraft. The upgrade brings state-of-the-art cockpit equipment to a proven aircraft platform, thus significantly increasing the versatility of the aircraft.”
