Press Release
Issued by Lufthansa Technik.
May 14, 2012
Lufthansa Technik's Innovation Business Unit has been selected by Learjet as the supplier of the cabin management and in-flight entertainment (CMS / IFE) system for the new Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 aircraft. Lufthansa Technik's nice® high definition (HD) system is already the baseline CMS / IFE system for the Bombardier Challenger 300 jet and the Learjet 85 aircraft.
The nice® HD system featured on both the Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 aircraft will include personal HD video at most seat locations** via 7'' pop-up HD displays. A 10'' pop-up will be installed on the Learjet 85 aircraft. The ultra-thin, small, light-weight pop-ups have an elegant design and quality look-and-feel that one associates with high-end consumer electronics.
The nice® HD system includes a number of media interfaces (USB, Apple, HDMI) that will enable encoding and streaming on the Ethernet network. Simply connect your media to the system and watch and / or listen. Lufthansa Technik / Innovation has also developed a multifunctional nice® HD Media Center unit that includes a Blu-ray player with built-in storage and update software packages that transform it into a Media Server, an Audio / Video on Demand (AVoD) Server, both wired and wireless, and a Map Server. One unit can host all the applications and simultaneously playback two applications at once in HD, all in a mechanical housing that is smaller than the current nice® DVD player.
The highly integrated digital nice® HD system is based on a wired and wireless high-bandwidth Ethernet network. A third generation User Interface (UI) combines a scroll-wheel with an corresponding animated Graphical User Interface – touchscreen control is also offered – allowing users to determine the best way to interact with and control the system. nice® HD users are also able to control all cabin functions via a wireless application on their iPhone or iPad.
Thanks to its open IP architecture, nice® HD is highly configurable and flexible, allowing Lufthansa Technik to offer a wide number of cabin equipment packages – from lighting and environmental control to the integration of third-party solutions such as satellite communications and TV, portable audio / video devices or cameras. Developed with HALT and manufactured under HASS procedures, the nice® HD system is both reliable and easy to maintain.
The nice® HD also meets today's stringent requirements for the legal streaming of HD content with integrated Digital Rights Management (DRM) and Hollywood-approved encryption. DRM is a system for protecting copyrighted data by enabling secure distribution and preventing illegal use of the data.
