Evergreen Apple Nigeria lands at EBACE 2012

Lagos-based Evergreen Apple Nigeria, EAN, is making its debut at this year's EBACE when it joins with European partner Maintenance Centre Malta (MCM) Limited on Stand No 1927. EAN, which commenced operations in July 2011, is the country's first fully integrated FBO, hangar and maintenance centre for business jets in Nigeria, a country which is one of the fastest growing markets for business aviation with some 130-150 business jets now based in the country.

The agreement with EASA-certified Maintenance Centre Malta sees the latter supporting EAN clients with line maintenance, wheels, brakes and battery servicing on European registered aircraft directly at their facility. "The majority of aircraft owned and operated in Nigeria are listed on foreign registries so it is advantageous for us to work with an established EASA Part 145 Organisation," says Segun Demuren, Managing Director/CEO. MCM is also certified by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to provide maintenance on Nigerian registered aircraft in Malta so providing an option for support in Europe."

For the longer term, EAN is working on achieving AMO certification to carry out maintenance on Nigerian registered aircraft in Nigeria. This approval is expected by the end of May. With a burgeoning Nigerian oil market EAN, in partnership with Heliportugal a Portuguese-based helicopter operator, has established a company which is planning to launch rotary operations and a rotary maintenance division to service the key means of transport to the oil platforms.

During EBACE Segun Demuren (MD/CEO, EAN), Capt John Goulet (MD, EAN Aviation) and Akaego Okoye (Company Secretary, EAN) will meet with leading international companies who already manage and operate business jets into the region, or are looking to start-up in Nigeria The team will also highlight that its FBO at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, representing an investment of about $25 million is formally open and prepared for the tailored demands of the executive aviation business.

EAN, has been developed in response to the growth of business aviation in the region. "Lagos is usually the first Nigerian city new business ventures target and we could see there were a lack of facilities expected from international business travellers," says Demuren: "Creating an integrated FBO and maintenance centre was essential to support this expanding sector and we anticipate that this demand will continue to grow." EAN determined that as Lagos is the business epicentre for the country, its first facility should be there. However, it is already advancing with plans to create new FBOs in Abuja, which is the official capital of Nigeria, and Port Harcourt, which sits at the heart of Nigeria's oil industry.

The Lagos FBO, which is operated by its subsidiary EAN Aviation Services Ltd, offers a secure, state-of-the-art facility with a wide range of amenities. This includes a crew room with WiFi access, short stay accommodation, crew transport, flight planning, fuel arranging, aircraft valet services, lavatory and potable water, and catering services. For passengers there are two VIP lounges, direct ramp access, assistance with customs and immigration clearance. EAN has on-going plans to offer customs and immigrations officers permanently on site. EAN also runs Wings Restaurant, a sushi and continental restaurant, which is located in the penthouse of the facility overlooking the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

For jet owners based in Lagos EAN runs The Jet Club. A monthly fee enables members to park aircraft at the facility and receive certain specific ground handling and dispatch services. Different levels of membership are available according to the client's needs. Gold memberships provide all ground handling services whilst Platinum membership ensures hangarage options too. The majority of clients are corporations which regularly fly in and out of Lagos. For European operators there is a day membership option which ensures provision of full ground handling services, the most attentive service and includes free parking for three hours.

For businesses looking to start up in Nigeria EAN also offers fully serviced office space at the airport making for an easy transition into Nigeria for any aviation business.
