Overview

The Gulfstream II was in production from May 1965 to December 1979, but between 1981 and 1987, more than 40 GIIs were converted to Gulfstream IIB standard. Certified on 17 September, 1981, the GIIB had a modified GII fuselage and GIII wings, complete with drag-reducing Whitcomb winglets. The variant offered weight and performance characteristics similar to the GIII, but with the shorter GII fuselage. Gulfstream completed and delivered approximately 40 units.

The GIIB was designed for optimal intercontinental range, runway performance and flight performance. It is powered by two Rolls-Royce Spey Mk511-8 turbofan engines that each provide 11,400 lbs of thrust on take off. The GIIB climbs at 4,350 ft per minute with a maximum flight ceiling of 45,000 ft. At sea level it can take off in 5,115 ft with a maximum take off weight of 69,700 lbs.

The GIIB cabin measures 1,270 cubic ft and is usually configured to hold between ten to fourteen passengers. In the cockpit, avionics are modelled around the Honeywell SPZ-800 system.

It has been succeeded by the Gulfstream III.
