Overview

The King Air 300 is the successor to the 200 series; a cleaned up B200 airframe on which more powerful 1,050 shp PT6A-60A turboprop engines were installed in redesigned cowlings. The MTOW was also increased.

The first flight of the prototype 300 took place on 3 September, 1983 and deliveries commenced the following year. Production ended in 1991. In 1984 a lower MTOW model, the 300LW, was developed and remained in production until 1994.

By 1988, Beechcraft had begun work on a replacement to the 300, the King Air 350. Introduced in 1990, it has two extra cabin windows on each side and MTOW was increased to 15,000 lb. A version with a large cargo door was also developed, the King Air 350C. First deliveries took place in 1990.

On June 13, 2005 Beechcraft announced that it was developing the King Air 350ER. Features include engine nacelle fuel tanks, heavy duty landing gear and increased MTOW. The 350ER was certified by the FAA on 11 November, 2007. October 2008 saw the introduction of the King Air 350i, with improvements to the passenger cabin. Deliveries commenced December 2009.

In August 2020 Textron introduced the King Air 360 and the extended range 360ER variant; both were type certified by the FAA in October 2020. They feature upgraded avionics, digital pressurisation and an autothrottle, as well as a modernised cabin featuring a 10 per cent lower altitude pressure. Both are powered by Pratt & Whitney PT6A-60A engines, and both can also operate on sustainable aircraft fuel.
